Firstof all,I will give you a brief introduction of shennongjia foryou.Shengnongjia lies in the west of Hubei Province and it’s awatershed of the Yangtze River and the Han River. Originally it wasa name of a peak, later it became a name of a mountain system, nowit’s a short name of the administrative area—Shengnognjia ForestDistrict. It was approved as an administrative area by the Councilof State with an total area of 3250 square kilometers.
Themountains were formed during the period of the Yanshan CrustalMovement, the highest peak is the Shennong Pinnacle with an altitudeof 3105.4 meters which is crowned “the highest peak of CentralChina”, but the lowest place –the Valley of Shizhu River just hasan altitude of 398 meters. The average altitude of Shennongjia isabout 1700 meters,the mountain peaks above 3000 meters total 6,therefore Shennongjia was also called the “Roof of Central China”.
Subtropicalclimate dominates Shennongjia, the three-dimensional climate is itsremarkable feature, it owns a few types of climate such assubtropical zone, warm temperate zone and cold temperate zone. Sothe climate is very complicated, there is an old saying which goes:“Four seasons in a mountain, different weathers in ten kilometers.”
Forestsare widely dispersed over Shennongjia, the botanical system ofShennongjia is very complicated. The forest land of the whole areatotals 3.93 million mu. The plants and animals of Shennongjiahave gathered a lot of famous plants and animals of the east, west,south and north; moreover they are very ancient, colorful andcomplicated, so Shennongjia is regarded as the “Green TreasureHouse” and the “Natural Botanical Garden”.
InShennongjia, the exotic peaks stand one by one and the strange cavescan be seen everywhere. Particularly it owns well-preserved primitiveforests and ancient rare biological species. In addition, italso owns charming climate, therefore it is also regarded as “ForestPark”, “Nature Museum”, “Scientific Research Base” and“Summer Resort for Tourists”.
Herewe are. Seeing is believing, let’s start to enjoy its elegantappearance. According to the legend, a long time ago, the fivecereals and weeds grew and mixed together, medicinal herbs andhundreds of flowers also mixed together, people were not sure whichcould be eaten and which could be used as medicine. They sufferedfrom hungry; and eating poisonous herbs and food. Seeing these,the Holy Farmer Shennong was sorry and had pity on them, in order tomake them have enough food and medicine to cure diseases, he decidedto find food and medicine for them. After going throughcountless hardships, finally he found a mountain . It was a boundlessmountain, the top of which was hidden in the cloud and its four sideswere surrounded by sheer cliffs, the waterfalls were hanging on thesheer cliffs which were covered with bryophyte. He thought theycould find the food and medicinal herbs they wanted. How to reachthe top? He puzzled, when a few golden monkeys were grasping the oldvines and branches of some trees to climb up the mountain, thisreminded him of finding a way, so he gathered the branches and vinesand made them as a ladder to climb up the mountain. For a long time,he arrived at the top of the mountain. Just as he had expected,it was a world full of flowers and plants. He risked his life totaste hundreds of medicinal herbs. Moreover he wrote the
famousbook Shennong’s Herbal classic. Later in order to commemorateshennong who had made a great contributions for people, people namedthis vast forest “Shennongjia”, “Jia” means ladder inEnglish, so this name can be translated as “Ladder of the HolyFarmer”.

Thisis Shennong Pinnacle. It’s 3105.4 meters high, the highest peakin Central China, so it is also called “the Roof of Central China”. When we enjoy it from afar, it looks like the shape of pyramid. The climate here is changeable in same day. On the pinnaclethere are a lot of rare and precious plants and animals such as snowlotus, fragrant cypress, golden monkeys and white bears.
Thisis the Golden Monkey Ridge—the favorite place of golden monkeys. It’s the main area of our country for protecting golden monkeys. Here the golden monkeys total about 500. TheXiaolong Pond is located at the foothill of the Golden Monkey Ridgewith an altitude of 2300 meters, it is secluded and cool, its sceneryis very charming and it is a scenic spot for tourists to visit. There are a lot of stories about the savages of Shennongjia, someremains of savages such as the footprints, hair and waste of savageshave been founded by the explorers and researchers in Shennongjia. This is the exhibition hall about . It can tell us a lot ofstories and legends about them. According to legend,originally the savages were the peasants who escaped into Shennongjiawhen they were forced to build the Great Wall in the Qin Dynasty over2200 years ago. They hid themselves in the deep primitive forestand separated from the common people for a long time. As timewent on, they gradually became the savages. At present, the“savages” are still an unknown puzzle to us, it will take us along time to disclose it.肢?額?
Thisis the Stone Forest—Fengjingya, the southern side of which was cutinto a deep valley of 1000 meters. Its altitude is 2950 meters. After millions of years’ erosion by wind and rain, the Stone Forestwas formed here. Around it there are many green bamboos and redazaleas, it is just like a peaceful land. There is a localsaying which goes: “If you come to Shennongjia and don’t visitFengjingya that meams you don’t come to shennongjia.” Itis regarded as the first scenery of Shennongjia.
Inspring and winter, it is windy and snowy, in summer and autumn, it’srainy and cloudy. Together with the beautiful red azaleas, thisplace is also called the “Stone Forest and Cloud Sea”. So itis an ideal place for visitors to get a bird’s eye view ofShennongjia’s wonderful scenery.
TheShennong Altar is a holy place for offering sacrifices to the HolyFarmer Shennong who found grains and medicinal herbs for people. This is the statue of Shennong in the altar. You can find that histwo eyes slightly close just like observing the things in the world. The height of his head is 21 meters which symbolizes that theChinese nation will become more prosperous day by day in the 21thcentury. The whole height of the statue is 56 meters whichsymbolizes the 56 nationalities of China. It’s said thatShennong had human body with cattle head. In fact, the ox hornis the totem of an ancient tribe. Now please have a look at thismountain from afar, you will find it’s very similar to the statueof Shennong. This seems to prove that here is a immortal place.
