(1) Lead-in
① Greet the class, then play a video clip of Kungfu Panda and ask Ss “Do you know the movie? Do you like pandas? Why do you like them?”.
② Ask “If you want see some animals, where can you go?”, then imagine we’re going to a zoo together to see animals.
(2) Presentation
① Guessing Game: show part of animals and let Ss guess what animal it is. ② Show the whole pictures of the animal and teach some new adjectives. ③ Fill in the blanks to review and practice sentences.
④ Memory challenge: show pictures of the animals together and ask Ss to memorize the order of them.
⑤ Work on 1a and check the answers (3) Listening
① Pre-listening: review and remember the adjectives with the help of the pictures
② While-listening: listen to the tape once
③ Post-listening: Check the answers and listen again to fill in the blanks (4) Pair work
① Show the picture of a beautiful zoo and imagine we can go to a zoo this Sunday. Ask Ss to talk about the animals they want to see first and why.
② Ask Ss to make conversations with their partner after giving them an example to follow. Show more adjectives to help them. ③ Ask some of them to act it out. (5) Practice
Translate some English proverbs about animals into Chinese. (6) Listening
① Pre-listening:
a. Show the pictures of national flags and ask Ss “Do you know the national flags?”
Teach new words “Australia, South Africa”. Then ask them “Do you know the famous animals in the countries?”
b. Predict the possible answers according to the descriptions ② While-listening: Listen to 2a twice and 2b once.
③ Post-listening: Check the answers and role-play the tape scripts. (7) Pair work
Ask Ss to talk about animals according to the pictures. Give them an example to follow. Then ask some of them to act it out.
(8) Summary
① Make a summary of the new nouns, adjectives and sentences we learn. ② Play a video about wildlife protection to appeal to Ss for protection of animals. (9) Homework 4. Teaching reflection
