Life can sometimes seem like an endless series of exhibitions. For those of us involved in the art world, there are times when we’re constantly visiting gallery after gallery, taking in as much as possible and getting to know the works of artists from far and wide. But there are some artists whose works consistently stand out. Some artists’ works stay in the thought and heart of an audience long after the show is over.I’ve noticed over the years that these are often the artists who have understood fully the skill of telling the story behind their art. These artists aren’t just selling paintings—they’re selling an experience.
Roxanna Kibsey is one of these artists. Her paintings are often exact descriptions of frozen tundra(冻原) or autumn trees—so bright that they could nearly burn a hole in the canvas. When I met her at an exhibition, she couldn’t wait to tell me about the place in her paintings.“Where I grew up we had nine months of winter every year. It’s really quite a tough place,” she said. She relived a part of her childhood when we chatted in front of her painting. The image brought to my mind memories of driving through the snowcovered countryside during my own first winter in Canada.I could almost hear the crunching ice under my feet as she described to me the countryside she grew up in.
Businessmen may have their elevator pitch, but artists, too, need their 30second story which rolls freely off the tongue. That’s why it’s so important that for each piece you might be exhibiting, you can conjure up(唤起) a story behind it,and tell that story to your audience in a way that helps them connect with your work, and makes them want to buy a piece.
1.What kind of artists does the author like? A.Those who have great skills.
B.Those who have held many exhibitions. C.Those who paint scenes of their own hometowns. D.Those who tell their experiences through their paintings. 2.Through Roxanna Kibsey’s painting, the author . A.had a beautiful imagination B.thought of a serious question C.brought back his own memories D.thought of his own hometown
3.We can learn from Paragraph 2 that . A.Kibsey’s work reflects her own life B.Kibsey had an unhappy childhood C.Kibsey doesn’t like her hometown D.Kibsey’s hometown is beautiful in winter 答案 DCA

The effect of drinking coffee on health has long been a subject of conflict and uncertainty.Since the 1980s,some have spoken out against coffee as harmful to health, while others have welcomed coffee for its supposed benefits to health.
According to a scientific report, mild coffee consumption, three to five cups per day,can be taken as a healthy dietary pattern, along with other healthful behaviors. The report also says that coffee consumption helps reduce the risk of heart disease and it protects against Parkinson’s disease.
According to Dr Donald Hensrud of Mayo Clinic, high consumption of coffee has health risks.Dr Hensrud mentions the dangers of high coffee consumption for people with a certain illness that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. Some studies said that drinking two or more cups of coffee daily can actually increase the risk of heart disease in these people.
According to conclusions from a recent study led by Dr Gregory Marcus,a doctor from the University of California San Francisco, daily moderate consumption of caffeine, less than 4 cups,is not associated with these issues.
Until the scientific community reaches a general agreement on the effects of coffee
consumption on human health,it will be up to the individual to decide whether the benefits of drinking coffee are greater than the risks.
When informed of these possible health benefits and harms of drinking coffee,Harwood,a high school student stated,“Even though there might be some negative effects of drinking coffee, for the most part, coffee drinking sounds good for health. Not to mention I need coffee to stay awake.”
4.What is people’s attitude towards the effect of coffee on health according to Paragraph 1? A.Disapproving. C.Positive.
B.Tolerant. D.Mixed.
5.What does the underlined word “moderate” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Personal. C.Reasonable.
6.What can we infer about Harwood? A.He’ll keep on drinking coffee. B.He loves his high school life. C.He often falls asleep in class. D.He has some health problems.
7.What would be the best title for the text? A.People’s Love for Coffee B.Coffee’s Effect on Health C.The Culture of Coffee Drinking D.The New Findings of Heart Disease 答案 DCAB

Have you ever made your life look a little more attractive than it actually is by posting truths on social media? If so,you may be damaging your mental health.
The posts we make on social media platforms allow us to look back and see what we did on a given day.But what happens when,in an effort to impress our online friends, photos and videos we post become beautified versions of the things we did?
A young girl named Sophia went out to a romantic anniversary dinner with her boyfriend, had a near relationshipending fight during dessert, then came home and posted,“Had the best time out with the love of my life!”—even with a photo of the meal.No surprise, but according to a new study,Sophia was by no means unique.Twothirds of users admit lying about their lives on social media with 20 percent of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 stating that they edit
B.Slight. D.Heavy.
their own stories by frequently lying about relationships and promotions.
By beautifying our online stories,we are harming our memories. We start believing the stories we tell rather than remembering what really happened.Soon, the real experience is lost and all that remains is the beautified version of history.
Scientists fear that these edited stories will end up changing our memories. It’s well confirmed through research that our own memories are often unreliable and can be easily controlled.Writing down one’s life in the form of a journal,or even on social media can help us keep our memories undamaged, but only if we tell the truth. So recording our experiences through whatever medium,to later recall lessons we learned,is not only acceptable but desirable. In fact, looking back at our own past—however embarrassing or uncomfortable—is not just healthy but can be enjoyable.
8.Why did Sophia post her story with a photo of the meal? A.To make her post attractive. B.To show her photography skill. C.To convince others of her story. D.To show how enjoyable the meal was.
9.In what kind of tone did the writer write the text? A.Encouraging. C.Humorous.
B.Critical. D.Enthusiastic.
10.The last paragraph implies that many people don’t realize . A.recalling the unpleasant past can also be enjoyable B.writing down our life on social media does no good to us C.recording our experiences through media is unacceptable D.recording our experiences through media is beneficial 11.What a lesson can be drawn from the text? A.Leaving others a good impression is desirable. B.Editting our online stories weakens our memory. C.Posting our experiences on social media is risky. D.Beautifying our history ends up hurting ourselves. 答案 CBAD Ⅱ.七选五
