guess和guess at都可表示“猜测”“猜”。其区别是：

1.guess at更强调“猜”的动作本身,含有“试猜一下”“猜猜看”的意思; 而guess无此含义。例如:

2.当表示“猜中”时,通常用guess,而不用guess at。

guess, conjecture, surmise

这组动词都有“猜想”“想象”“料想”的意思。其区别是：

guess指对某事并未确知的情况下,只凭想象的可能性来猜测; conjecture指凭经验从不完善、不肯定的证据中进行推断; surmise指凭直觉观察推断出有效结论,暗含具有客观态度和冷静思考的能力,往往有较充分的推测根据。例如:

The old peasant conjectured that it would be an unusually cold winter.那老农推测冬天将会异常地寒冷。

guess, imagine, suppose

这三者均可表示“猜想”。其区别是：

imagine指没有事实根据,仅凭主观想象进行猜想; guess指未经认真思索而进行猜想,有时指不着边际地瞎猜; suppose指依据某些事实进行探索性的推测。例如:

I guess you've already known the answer.我想你已经知道答案了。

I suppose he is late again.我想他又迟到了。

assume，presume，suppose，guess，postulate

这些动词均含为“假设，猜想，推测”之意。

assume指有很少或完全无根据的武断推测或不合逻辑的推理。

presume侧重以过去经验或根据现实的某些感觉把某事认定为是事实。

suppose常用词，意义较广泛，指缺乏确切事实，根据一些现象进行的推测，也可指为论证而提出合乎逻辑推理的某种假定，有时仅表示自己的意见。

guess常用词，指毫无根据仅凭个人主观臆断或碰运气的猜测。

postulate指为证实一个理论的正确性而进行的假设。
